From Quiet Streams to Silver Dreams: A Back-to-Back Hammered Week!
What a week it has been on the land. If there is one thing metal detecting teaches you, it is patience. This week started out as a relatively quiet one. I was Broadcasting on TikTok Live, and let me tell you, there were some serious testing times. We went through quiet patches where we didn't get a single signal for 45 minutes to an hour at a time. It is easy to get discouraged when the headphones stay silent, but it just goes to show: you have to keep swinging. Whether you are hitting nothing at all, or digging through a busy patch full of endless buttons, you've got to push through it.
And boy, am I glad I did. Because out of nowhere, the detecting gods smiled, and I landed two silver hammered coins on a bounce!

Night One: The Mystery Love Token
The first silver to pop up was a lovely, heavily worn, and bent 1400s Spanish hammered coin. At first glance, we all just assumed it was a classic love token. But as we looked closer, a really unique bit of detail stood out right in the middle—a perfect little wheat stack. I was stumped, but during my TikTok Live, someone in the chat managed to help me identify it. Fair play to them, that was an absolutely great spot and a brilliant piece of teamwork!
Night Two: Elizabeth I Groat
As if that wasn't enough, the very next evening delivered another piece of history. Two days on a bounce, and up came the star of the show—the post-medieval Elizabeth I groat. It has a tiny little chip on the corner, but the detail left on it is just incredible. It is an absolutely beautiful coin, and as you can see from the image, it looks absolutely stunning.
The Machine Behind the Finds
For those wondering about the gear, I exclusively used the Minelab Manticore this week, paired with the 9-inch coil. It performed really, really well, pulling these beauties out of the ground and separating the good signals from the trash even when the going got tough. It performed as well as ever, I honestly could never imagine using a different machine, but of course one day I will as things move on.

When I wasn't out in the fields, Terry and I were in the studio recording the fourth episode of our podcast series, Two Fellas A-Field. In this episode, we sat down to discuss the future of metal detecting, and it led to some really interesting, thought-provoking conversations.
Some of the ideas we kicked around might sound a bit far-fetched, but others are right on top of us already—like Artificial Intelligence. AI is here now, and it is only going to get integrated more and more into the technology of our metal detectors. It’s wild to think about where this hobby is heading.
